It’s more Fun in the Philippines

Boracay, in the Philippines, transforms the definition of beach vacation. There, days are spent between sports activities, tours and spa treatments.

Take the next flight to Manila, in the Philippines, and then get on a second plane until you reach Kalibo Airport. Next, buy a bus ticket to Caticlan (90 minutes away from Kalibo) and board the ferry that will take you to your destination: Boracay. Once there, you’ll understandwhy we decided to recommend this island for a fun and active beach trip.

Boracay, whose name means “cotton”, referring to its white sand, transforms the definition of beach vacation that normally includes concepts like leisure, cocktails and suntans. There, days go by while tourists participate in multiple activities that appeal to different tastes.

In Boracay you can play beach volleyball or take wind-surfing, snorkel and diving classes; and if you want to try land activities, you’ll get the chance to go on a mountain biking tour, play tennis, practice your golf swing or get an adrenaline rush by going rock wall climbing or zip-lining. Also, if the sun is too hot and you prefer to take the fun indoors, remember that the Filipino love to play billiards and, in fact, they’re renowned players. That’s why you’ll find several billiards venues as well as a bowling alley with six lanes.

The island possesses different landscapes that you’ll want to see from afar, up close, from the mountaintop and from the ocean. For that reason, we recommend going on a boat or yacht tour around the island, or joining a trekking or horseback riding tour.

Once you’ve participated in all these activities, you’ll surely want to plan something more relaxing for the evening. DINKtravelers suggests making a reservation for a spa treatment at one of the health resorts that have been built on the mountainside. They offer spectacular views of the island and the sea. You’ll truly enjoy the soothing candlelit ambiance decorated with Filipino fountains and sculptures than inspire meditation.

After recharging your energy, go out and enjoy nightlife in Boracay. Despite being in a small island, you’ll find various entertainment options including listening to live piano or guitar music, dancing in outdoors nightclubs and attending the shows most hotels organize.

If you plan your trip between May and June, you’ll find the best weather, but you’ll have to be prepared for the hottest days. Furthermore, don’t miss the chance to visit Boracay in other seasons; for example, between December and April, when many other destinations around the world are covered in snow; between July and September, when you’ll find the cheapest lodging rates, and during October and November, when you’ll see the most romantic sunsets.
