Movies and Travel

By Ana Torres |

From Harry Potter to Amélie, cinematographic sets have always been a good reason to visit new destinations.

After watching a good movie, is the only thing you want to do is to pack and get on a plane to live the experience yourself? On this occasion, DINKtravelers pleases film buffs by introducing three destinations that became famous thanks to the seventh art.

If you enjoy romantic comedies, then your dream vacations will be in Paris. This city that’s full of classical architecture offers captivating sights such as that of the walkway along the Seine. It appears in movies likeOne Day (2011) with Anne Hathaway and Midnight in Paris (2011) by Woody Allen. Also, this European capital is ideal for shopaholics and fashion lovers because along the Champs-Élysées –Paris’ main avenue that leads to the Arc de Triomphe– you’ll find the best boutiques to renew your wardrobe, just as they suggest in The Devil Wears Prada (2006). But if you prefer a bohemian tour, we recommend visiting the artistic neighborhood of Montmartre and enjoying a petit déjeuner at the Café 2 Moulins –where Audrey Tautou filmed the breakfast scene of Amélie (2001).

However, if you prefer science fiction, your next trip should be to London. This orderly metropolis has been home to many great writers whose stories have been taken to the big screen. Such is the case of Arthur Conan Doyle’s Sherlock Holmes and the most recent saga of Harry Potter. Here we share some tips with you so you can visit the location where this magic story was filmed: The famous platform 9¾ that leads to Hogwarts is found in King’s Cross underground station where they placed a sign that reads “Platform 9¾” together with a cart full of luggage that seems to be disappearing into the wall. It’s the perfect scenery for a picture! And if you want to shop like a wizard, visit Leadenhall Market, which was used as a stage for the shops of Diagon Alley. Finally, do you remember where Harry learned that he could talk to snakes? It was at the snake house in Regent’s Park! We also recommend that during your trip to London you visit the zoo. It’s ideal to enjoy a different and quiet environment amidst a modern city.

Lastly, here’s the ultimate destination for people who like action movies; we’re talking about Puerto Vallarta, in Mexico. This magnificent city of sun and sand was the setting for thrillers like Predator (1987) starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, Puerto Vallarta Squeeze (2004) with Scott Glenn, and Limitless (2011) starring Bradley Cooper and Robert De Niro. Without doubt, the warm weather and thrilling nightlife of this touristic city will be the essential ingredients to star in your own adventure.
