Motorbike Tour in Phuket
Rent a motorcycle and visit the Giant Buddha and the Wat Chalong temple in Phuket.
VISIT PHUKET ISLAND IN THAILAND
Phuket is an island located in Thailand. In the past it was famous because it was part of the commercial route between China and India, but nowadays it’s popular thanks to its massage and spa services as well as its clear ocean waters and fine sand beaches.
RENTING A MOTORCYCLE IN PHUKET
If you enjoy riding motorcycles, Phuket offers the chance to go on an exciting adventure that will take you to its most important touristic attractions.
There are several motorcycle rental services on the island, and you can rent the vehicle for a few days or even for a couple of hours. Choose the option you find most convenient, although the tour we suggest will only take one day. In that case, the cost per motorcycle will be around THB 350 and THB 500 for two passengers.
GIANT BUDDHA OF PHUKET
First, ride to the mountaintop where you’ll see the Giant Buddha of Phuket. There are actually two Buddha monuments there; one is a golden 12 meter-tall statue made of bronze, and the other one is made of marble and it’s 45 meter-tall and 25 meter long. The latter is still in construction, but what’s interesting is that you can buy a piece of marble and write a message, prayer or blessing on it, and it will later be used to finish the base of the statue. Another alternative is to ask one of the monks who live there to make a prayer on your behalf.
Traveler tip: Enjoy the view. You’ll see, on one side, Chalong Bay, and on the other, the Andaman Sea.
DINING IN PHUKET
After riding back down the mountain we recommend visiting one of the local restaurants where you can try the traditional island dishes. DINKtravelers suggests ordering pineapple rice, tom-yun soup and Thai iced tea, as well as basil leaves with meat and mango salad. Take into account that they use a lot of hot pepper in their dishes; so if you prefer milder tastes, let the chef know before you order.
WAT CHALONG TEMPLE
After lunch it will be time to continue your motorcycle tour. Your next stop is Wat Chalong, the most important Buddhist temple in Phuket. It has three levels and they’re all open to the public. On the first two floors you’ll find golden statues and paintings that describe the life of Buddha, and on the third floor you’ll find terraces from which you can see the landscape of the surrounding buildings. Don’t forget that you’ll need to take your shoes off before entering the temple, and if you’re a woman and you’re wearing shorts, they’ll ask you to wrap a pashmina around your waist in order to cover your legs.
After your tour, visit one of the local markets where you can buy souvenirs. Remember to wear comfortable shoes and take cash because they don’t accept credit cards. No cash? Don’t worry, there’s a currency exchange center in every corner.
