Literature, nature and history are one in Romania. The Danube Delta, with its 23 ecosystems, is one of the best preserved in Europe and has been declared a World Heritage Site. Other areas registered by UNESCO are the painted monasteries of Bucovina and the archaeological zone of Sarmizegetusa Regia. This country saw the birth of Vlad III the Impaler, who inspired the creation of the fictional character, Count Dracula. From there, another of its attractions is Bran Castle, portrayed by Bram Stoker in his novel.
